Studio Notes - March 2021
It’s really pretty simple. Where the sun shines, it’s warm. Where it doesn’t, it’s not. That’s early spring in Maine. This was taken in the marsh at Morse Mountain Nature Preserve in Phippsburg, Maine, a place of beauty and spirit, on the first day of spring.
To see: Mint Theater Company finds and produces worthwhile plays from the past that have been lost or forgotten. Six plays, beautifully filmed, available online for free. Donations gratefully accepted. Having seen three of the plays, I can highly recommend it!
To do: Check out Haystack Mountain School of Crafts’ summer online programs. It’s a very smart and engaging list of online presentations and they are free and open to everyone. Prepare to be amazed and sign up for any and all!
To read: Have I told you about the best advice I ever received? Almost the best, anyway. Larry Thomas, a wonderful artist, teacher and human being once said to me, when I was dithering about finding a worthy subject for drawing, “Don’t look for something important to draw. Make something important by drawing it.” That pertains no matter what your medium.
Coming up:
March 1 marked the beginning of a Craft Apprenticeship Program grant, working with Ashley Page for six months in a mentor artist/apprentice relationship. I’m very excited to be working with Ashley in this relevant alternative educational experience.
Exhibition at Cove Street Arts opening July 4 with Alison Hildreth and Tom Hall. I will be showing spoons, bowls and brushes, human-scaled objects that are commonly used everywhere. Sculptures and drawings and combinations.
Here we are in spring with longer days. With light comes energy. With energy, action. With action, choices. May they all be good ones.
All best,
Lissa
