Studio Notes - February 2023

We are in the depths of what would normally be called winter here in Maine.  But this year?  Not so much.  No snow to speak of.  Almost sixty degrees a few days ago.  Just a part of what seems to be an unsettled life these days.  But studio work goes on with all its attendant mess.

To do:

I’m ready for real spring but spring is not ready for me.  And so I am stubbornly doing a spring thing.  I’m planting.  For now, it’s lemon seeds started in moisture to be planted in small pots when sprouted.  There are many such small celebrations online to do right now.  Avocado pits. Scallions.  Sweet potato.  Ginger.  More for the magic than the produce!

To see:

I know that this is not a possibility for everyone but if you find yourself in Boston, a trip to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a must.  It is the personal anti-museum museum, built at the turn of the last century, based on an Italian palazzo with many of the structural elements imported from Italy.  It holds a history of 20th century America, many centuries of world art, a grand art theft with a love story thrown in.

Coming up:

Quiet Connections, a two-person show with Carol Stein at PHES Gallery in Carlsbad CA, March 19 to May 7, 2023

Intimate Objects of Suspect Utility, a solo show at Cove Street Arts, Portland ME, May 9 to July 10.  Also a book by the same name, appearing with the show.

The work has been shipped for the show in California and the work for the show at Cove Street is well underway.  The book is a wildcard in all of this but Tim McCreight at Brynmorgen Press is keeping me in line.  All good.  Very grateful.

All best,

Lissa
